We invite you to join us
for Chinese Brush Painting and Lanterns
Deanna Dikinis will host our event in her classroom in Tucson.
Move with Chinese brush painting, giggle while painting pandas, and pull it all together to make working lanterns. We will start off using whole arm movements and broad brushstrokes for creating bamboo paintings, then transition the same skills to four sections of 4”x8” 80lb. paper. These four sections will be the sides of our lanterns that will get glued together and stapled. Embroidery floss is used for decoration and to create a loop to hang the lantern from. The final touch is constructing a little platform inside the lantern to hold a small tea light.
I will have images of: pandas, bamboo plants, flowers, koi fish, dragons, Buddha figure, and some Chinese characters. If there are other images that interest you, please bring them. I will have tracing paper, so do not worry about intricacy.
You will leave with some bamboo paintings created from India ink and Chinese brushes, a working lantern made from paper, watercolor, and colored inks with a tea light, and lesson plans with images.
All materials and tools will be supplied for use in the workshop.
Please indicate when registering whether you want a catered lunch or prefer to bring your own.
We will issue 4 hours of professional development certificates online after you complete a survey about this workshop..
